Welcome to my writer's world....
A budding novelist, I spend my evenings and weekends thinking about the perfect words to create people that don't exist. I have a passion for listening to my characters tell me their stories so that I, in turn, can tell their stories to the world. It is not for fame or fortune that I write, but for the characters. Without my voice, their stories may lie untold forever.
I'm the one that sits in a meeting listening to the whispered voice of a character in my head who is focused on the scene, the ambiance, the people, the situations, the details around me so that when one of those many things jumps out and grabs the character, he or she can say to me: "That's it! That's my name!" or "Can you imagine what I would be like if I was in a meeting like this? Maybe I'm a lawyer or a dictator or a CEO..." or "Do you see how the room is situated? The chairs, the tables, and the people? Maybe in my world, this room is a parenting class or a library or the stage on which I will be an actor." And when the characters speak, I sit up in rapt attention and fumble for my notebook and pen, eager to capture the thought, the setting, the name, the feeling that needs to be remembered for when I am back in my writing studio and can feverishly allow that inkling of information to become the stage for prose so powerful that someday, a reader won't be able to put it down and Oprah herself will give it her stamp of approval.
As a returning student working toward a Master of Fine Arts studying creative writing, I have found myself stretched thin between family life, work, and school. Because of that, I’m experimenting with finding a way to make one thing meet the demands of many things. Which is why you might just find yourself getting a glimpse into assignments I’m doing for school.
My debut novel Soaring Alone is now available on Amazon.
